Starting From Scratch

A new year paves way for a new collection theme and that is how we’ve done it at Maloja since day one.  From our founding in 2004 we have managed to create 15 completely new collections spanning a wide range of inspiring designs.  For our 16th collection, “Laya - Where the Mountains Are”, we took a deep dive into the culture of Bhutan, the “Place of Good Fortune” and set out to combine analog and digital mediums in a completely new way.

Bhutan – Kingdom of Happiness

Land of the Thunder Dragon, Fortress of the Gods, Place of Good Fortune – Bhutan has many names and faces. Yet, the last kingdom of the Himalayas is still quite unique. Nestled between Tibet and India, it seems to have been laying in slumber for centuries, blanketed safely from the outside world and the influences of outside cultures. Indeed, a lot has changed since its cautious awakening in the 1970s, but many of its values, traditions and, most importantly, its way of life have remained true to this day.

Our Values Visualized

After 15 years, we at Maloja had the feeling our logo needed a little bit of fine tuning. As part of the re-design we took a close look at our values and our companies history. Ultimately we were content with the logo and decided to refresh it with a slight modern touch. After all, it is a reminder of the values that inspired us to found the company back in 2004.

Laya - Collection
Spring | Summer 2020

In the Himalayas, between Tibet and India, there is a country devoted to happiness: Bhutan. At the foot of the highest mountains of this „kingdom in the sky“ is the village of Laya. There lives a people of yak nomads, who have preserved their own way of life and clothing style until today.

Nordic Kit

Two years ago, the company Sporten in the Czech Republic came to us and asked whether we could kit out their test team and athletes with our clothing. We then came up with the idea of trading apples for pears – or more specifically, clothing for cross-country skis.

Maloja was founded 15 years ago on the concept of combining function and style. Our goal was and is to this day to ensure you to feel comfortable in your bike gear after a ride, whether at a café or beer garden. Therefore, we were the first brand in mountain biking to offer both skin-tight cycling bibs and cool, relaxed riding shorts.
