Hey Maloja Friends,
My name is Hazel Birnbaum and I like to call myself a professional dreamer. Like Maloja I spend every moment dreaming big dreams and on the hunt for grand adventures!
I credit my big dreams to growing up rambling in the rugged peaks of the Chugach Mountains in Alaska. Here I spent my childhood skiing, fishing, hiking and learning how to respect nature and everything it offers.
I moved to Lake Tahoe, California at the age of eighteen to see what the fabled Sierra Nevada had to offer and fell in love with its big trees and beautiful mountains. I ski patrolled for eight seasons at Kirkwood Mountain Resort, but now my main focus is traveling to Freeride and see new places. So if you look hard enough you may just find me skiing some backcountry powder stashes, free riding in Europe, on belay at the bottom of a criag, or mountain biking some epic single track! The adventure is never-ending!
I am also a competitive skier and athlete on the Freeride World Tour (FWT). I don’t think competition defines all of who I am but I love that it pushes me and allows me to experience incredible places with amazing people. 2015 was my rookie year on the FWT, I won two events at Andorra and the Verbier Extremes, finishing third overall for women skiers. I realize it is often the journey that I look back and am grateful for, not just the results.  I currently compete on the Freeride World Tour and love the places and people I get to meet along the way.

I am incredibly humbled to work with a company like Maloja who shares my same values and adventurous spirit. At the end of the day it is your passions that illustrate your life and the company of friends and family you share it with.
I look forward to many more years of fun, laughter, and adventure with the Maloja family.
Hazel Birnbaum
