From Sunday to Wednesday we were allowed to open our barn doors and introduce visitors to the ISPO 2012 our new winter collection HiSociety 2012/2013. Our barn has also provided indoors for a great atmosphere and was a nice hostel for the many dealers, friends and colleagues who have visited us. We have not only had four really good days – on top of that we have shown a really nice new collection.

The annual Fulda Challenge will take place between the 12th and 19th of Januar in Yukon/Canada. With temperatures down to 40° below zero, participants from all over the world will team up and compete in an „arctic decathlon”. Contests like motorsled racing, cross country skiing or an offroad rally with a KIA Sportage SUV will be on the program.

 

But before I could start to Canada, I had to qualify in a national competition at the Postalm/Salzburg, where the Austrian and Swiss participants would be selected.

 

I arrived on Friday, where I had to walk to the hut. But we wouldn’t sleep inside, we had to set up a tent. Yes, we spent the night outside, but before that we sat down in the hut and got to know each other: 5 men and women from Austria plus 5 men from Switzerland participated in the qualification. Only the best men and women from each country will be granted a spot in the final in Yukon/Canada.

 

The following day was the first day of the competition, a tough one, which we didn’t knew yet. Sleep deprived, it was quite chilly in the tent, we crawled out of it to start the day with a good breakfast. Nobody told us so far, how it will went down today. At 08:00 we started with a nice little… 15km long run. Uphill! After about 1h 45min I arrived at the finish, but there wasn’t much time to recover, we had to ride downhill for about 15min to the next challenge: cross over a about 40m wide canyon on a rope.

 

After a short lunch break we had to do a little game of skill, during with the coaches started to grin… we all been standing in front of the hut as one of the coaches pointed to the mountain in front of us and said: “you guys see the cross on the summit with the flag? We see you there, go!” And everybody started running, crawling and climbing through the forest. When we arrived we had to went back where the next challenges waited for us: log cutting, “brain games”, log throwing, Car slalom, Car pulling, Zorbball, driving with a quad and my favourite discipline: changing the tires on a car At the end of the day we completed 14 challenges!

 

On Sunday we started really early again. First we had to ride the bike for about 30min till we reached a fixed rope route at the Postalm. Next Challenge is to finish this trail as fast as possible. Afterwards, next was Uphill with Mountainbike all muscles were already sore, but we made it to the meeting point and last Challenge on the program: archery, which I really liked, cause I had some training

 

Then, after 17 challenges, the winner was finally announced. Everybody was really curious, at first they announced the participants for the Swiss team, then for Team Austria. When they called my name I was speechless! Me and my teammate Martin Zach will be representing Austria in the Fulda Challenge 2012 in Yukon/Canada! 

 

We already met last weekend to prepare for the versatile and difficult challenges which we probably will face in Canada. Peter Widhalm and Lisa Fail, who both been to the Fulda Challenge last year, also been there and helped us out in every way they could. We prepared with car slalom, skijoring, cross country skiing, climbing, snowshoe hiking, sled pulling etc.

I’m back from the Allgäu where I held my legendary X-Mas Jam session. This year was it’s 10th anniversary – a long time that I celebrate with friends, pro’s and fans the
end of the bike season.
 
At warm temperatures there came record-breaking 200 riders from all parts of Germany, Austria and Switzerland on my dirt track under a highway bridge near Lake Constance to have fun with me
my pro colleagues. The focus was: riding together – no command, no stop-watch, no challenge, no winners or losers. The kid’s and hobby riders had as much fun as the pro riders.
 
There were also about 800 friends and spectators along the track. DJ “Freizeit” from Red Bull heated up the crowd – and Mama Tschugg served food and hot drinks. Furthermore people could test
a GHOST Bike and check out the latest bike trends. One of the Highlights was the great lottery where the people won prices (worth about 3.000 €) from my Sponsors: GHOST, SHIMANO, Red Bull,
maloja, IXS, Marzocchi, Syntace, Leatt, Falk Outdoor and adidas Eyewear (thanks a lot to you guys – you made this event to something really special).
 
I did this event for the first time in 2002 – since then the SHIMANO X-Mas Jam became more and more a family-reunion. You meet old friends and finish together with them the bike season … if nothing else the X-Mas Jam
is a happening for the bike offspring that is near to my heart. I do a lot for the youngsters … for example my Shape Camp, Backyarddiger-Actions, Trackbuilding, Technic Training, Video-Projects a.s.o.

Some companies have a "Casual Friday" - we had "Flodder Friday". On the occasion of Anette´s last working day, we prepared a befitting farewell for here. This special afternoon was moderated by our friend Bernhard Fleischmann from Bayern 3, with funny games, a dance contest, sausages and beer.

Special thanks to Fleischi, for the probably funniest working day in our life ;-))))))))))

This weekend the final cup of the Danish Downhill Series 2011 took its place in the northern part of Denmark, and FUSION FREERIDE TEAM attended the series as usual. The rain made new record in danish history this last month, but Friday during setup of the event. The weather cleared up. Amazingly the track became quite dry and very speedy during training day Saturday, and conditions showed themselves close to perfect, Sunday raceday. The race went on almost without any injuries, and people had a really good time. Racers were coming down faster and faster and the hot seat kept changing visitor. Mike Thisted finished 2nd in the race, and 2nd overall. He was pretty satisfied as the defending winner from last year.  I finished 4th in the race, and 4th overall. All in all satisfied considering the crash resulting in 0 points last cup.  All team members agreed that this was one of the coolest race runs any of us ever did. Mostly due to the massive crowd who attended the finals. I remember coming in to the final steep section of the track, into a roaring crowd, almost shouting to myself inside the helmet - "Oh my god, this is so cool!!!!!!" The team and I are looking forward to the next season of racing and enjoying riding from the highest places possible, in the fastest way. We can't wait to show of the new Maloja stuff. Finally, a litte washing note…  RED BULL is a little sticky, but the Maloja bike wear loves it as much as we do!
